AGH I have to rant: There is NO SUCH THING as dubstep dance
So I was on Youtube cus i was procrastinating, and I come across this guy who makes this dance video calling out the popper, Nonstop (he has various vids dancing to dubstep). I don’t really wanna post the video here because that would just traffic people to his channel, but anyway this guy THINKS he created this own style of dance he calls Dubstep dancing. If you watch the video, he is clearly doing popping moves like hits, isolations, waves and tuts. But he thinks he is not popping, he thinks he’s better than poppers, and he talks crap to anyone who thinks otherwise. And the funniest thing is that even though he is dancing to dubstep, he’s not even dancing on beat, which defeats the whole purpose of dancing to dubstep in the first place.
Now I have no beef with this guy personally and honestly I’m not bothered by his arrogance. I’m not bothered by people that dance to dubstep either, because I’ve done it before and sometimes it can be interesting to hit the unique beats. What bothers me is that this dubstep dance thing is being misinterpreted by these so-called dubstep dancers. This hype is being translated into a separate style or form of dance when in reality it’s just the music choice that sets it apart. There is no such thing as dubstep dance as its own style. People can pop to dubstep, they can choreograph movement to dubstep, and in some cases they may even breakdance to dubstep, but they are not dubstep dancing. They are still popping, choreographing, and breaking. The craze of using dubstep instead of other music is just part of the hype. There is nothing new within the style of dance. Dubstep dance does NOT exist.
